As the first of our “Hidden Gems” series, we’ve got an absolute stunner of a modern wedding venue for you today, and it is so on brand for the perfect Carmela Weddings couple that it may as well have been designed specifically for us.
You’ve probably heard of One Aldwych. Great Hotel, modern styling, superb location. What you probably don’t know is the flexibility of spaces that the hotel can provide and especially the absolute beaut that is Eneko, its Basque restaurant.
We’ll elaborate on this a bit later, but first – the hotel itself.
The lobby bar was recently named one of the top five hotel bars in the world by The Sunday Telegraph, and it’s a seriously stylish place. You can employ the impressive skills of the bar’s mixologists to create bespoke cocktails for your guests, or set up a session where you can learn to make them yourselves. The vibe is definitely classic London style with a modern twist.
The quiet bar is another great space, perfect for a night before drinks reception, or a wedding party meet up point on the big day. Accessed through a secret door, it’s an oasis of calm as the triple glazing means you can enjoy the hustle of the city without having to shout over your bellini.
Another great option is the 30-seat private cinema screening room – we think this would be perfect for an evening before party, to sit and watch Pretty Woman or Die Hard (hey it’s your choice) and sip an old fashioned. The Lyceum Room is just next door and can be used for canapés or dinner before or after the film. The seats are Italian leather and the screen is 1.6 metres high x 3 metres wide.
If a night at the movies doesn’t grab you or your guests attention, then there is a luxurious health club. This is a hidden gem within a hidden gem! You can indulge in a range of luxurious treatments, ensure your body is suitably temple like in the 1600 square foot gym, or take a dip in the chlorine free swimming pool while listening to its underwater music system.
Now, after all the above warm up acts, when it comes to the main attraction for your modern wedding venue, we really love the super sleek and stylish restaurant Eneko.
Take a stop on the mezzanine bar for a chilled out drinks reception, before heading into the urban luxury setting of the restaurant for your wedding breakfast and evening entertainment. The space is flexible and is a real oasis in the centre of town, perfect for creating an exclusive party vibe as the night wears on.
The restaurant is available for exclusive hire, seating 110 guests and up to 150 guests for a standing reception.
Launched in September 2016 in partnership with the three-Michelin-starred Chef, Eneko Atxa, the food is appropriately epic (CW can personally vouch for this)! There are even four White wines from Eneko’s family winery.
