So, we all know Devon is gorgeous right? Beautiful for a country wedding, stunning beaches, cream teas, what’s not to love? But it’s all a bit “country” isn’t it if you’re a couple wanting to create a modern country wedding?
Well, here’s the thing. We know the most amazing venue, totally exclusive, where the service is second to none, the rooms are absolutely gorgeous, don’t get us started on the food, and we haven’t even mentioned the treehouse yet. Oh, and it’s only two and half hours drive from London.
Honestly, here at Carmela Weddings we visit our fair share of luxury hotels and venues, and it isn’t often that we find one that ticks every box, but that’s what The Deer Park Country House Hotel does. Perhaps the fact that it is privately owned in this age of cookie cutter hotels is what gives it the edge for couples seeking luxury with an eclectic twist for their modern country wedding.
Ok, let’s talk facilities. Firstly, the options for your wedding ceremony here are so varied. There are a number of gorgeous outdoor locations to choose from. Make use of the tranquility within the secret garden, use the main lawns with the magnificent rhododendron bush as your backdrop, embrace your classical side in Italian gardens or opt for the more relaxed private pond area.
Seriously, they are all gorgeous and that’s just the tip of the iceberg. (Or Cos or any other variety of lettuce grown in the walled gardens). Plus, if the English weather lets you down, there are loads of plan B options with a selection of stylish rooms in the main house. We especially loved the drawing room, with its eclectic art and light and airy atmosphere.
So, wedding ceremony done in style – where are you heading for your wedding breakfast and where is the party happening?
This is CWs favourite bit…. The magnificent Orangery can accommodate 210 for the wedding breakfast and 250 for your evening antics. The styling is bang on for a luxury modern wedding – just check out these chandeliers paired with the most striking wallpaper we’ve yet to come across in a venue! You can tailor the lighting to suit your colour scheme, there’s a gorgeous bar in place so no stresses in sourcing one, and the conservatory next door can be used as a chill out area, additional bar, whatever takes your fancy. (Did we mention how flexible the spaces are)? Plus, on a balmy summer evening (they do exist, honest) the doors can all be opened to bring the outside in.
There is a superb in house catering team – we sampled a variety of the food available, and it was all first class. There are no “set menus” as the team will work with you to create your perfect menu, always using locally sourced and organic ingredients
All boxes are ticked here, and the attention to detail that is clearly demonstrated by all the staff here means that your day will be bespoke, unique and unforgettable.
On the subject of unforgettable….we have to tell you about the treehouse. Set amidst a cluster of beautiful old oaks, overlooking the River Otter Valley, we’re reliably informed it’s the only thatched luxury tree house in Devon! The bathroom, has underfloor heating, a roll-top bath, and a gorgeous rain shower, it really is the most idyllic setting to spend your first night together as a married couple.
For your guests, the rooms in the house are luxurious, spacious and comfortable, plus there is the option of booking out the stunning three bedroom detached country house for your bridal party where you can enjoy a couple of “night before” drinkies on your private decking, curl up by the wood burning stove, take a soak in the freestanding bath.
